Whale watching in Hermanus
Hermanus offers the best Whale viewing from land in the world. From a cliff path, visitors will have some of the best views of the Whales frolicking down below. The species of Whale seen quite often is the Southern Right Whale, Bryde's Whales and the Humpback Whales. Other species have been seen on occasion. The sightings usually start from May to December.
The best time to see Whales at any one time is October. Dolphin species in the region include the endemic Heavisides Dolphin, Bottlenose Dolphin and Common Dolphin. One of the interesting facts of Hermanus is that there is a Whale Crier, of which this town featured one first. The sound of his kelp horn alerts visitors to Whale sightings.
