Whale watching in South Africa at Hermanus

Strolling along the craggy cliff paths is the way to enjoy Hermanus whale watching. Visitors can see a mother whale and her newly-born calf swim within metres of the rocky shoreline. These magnificent sightings are indeed possible in one of the best land-based whale watching destinations in the world.

Hermanus whale watching can be enjoyed from June or July through to December every year. Hundreds of Southern Right Whales amongst other kinds arrive to calve and suckle their young in the protected bays. Visitors can keep a look out for the Hermanus Whale Crier, and listen for when he blows his horn indicating a sighting.

Other exciting Hermanus whale watching activitiess include, taking an organised boat trip out to within metres of these huge mammals, or enjoying the delights of Walker Bay near the most southern tip of Africa.
