Whale Watching in Mossel Bay

Relax on the De Dakke Beach and watch the care-free playing of dolphins and whales. Boat trips to Seal Island, a small island in False Bay occupied by Cape Fur Seals, give you one of the best chances to spot whales, penguins, dolphins and seals. The dense population of fur seals attracts the Great White Shark, the seal's main foe. Therefore Seal Island provides unique opportunities to observe attacks by White Sharks on seals.

From June to November, four species of whales come into Mossel Bay to calve. Southern Right Whales are the most commonly sighted whales along the greater Mossel Bay coastline. However, Humpback, Killer and Bryde's whales are frequenting the route. Informative whale interpretation boards along beautiful viewing points make it the ideal route to view the giants of the ocean. Take a boat based whale-watching trip and experience the thrill of viewing these giant mammals close up.
