  • Whale Watching:

    Whale watching at the Grootbos Nature Reserve The coastline at Grootbos Nature Reserve is the nursery to Southern Right Whales, coming there from June to November to breed and calve. The cliffs of Walkers Bay are the perfect starting point for amazing whale viewing.

    Mothers, calves and energetic bulls come to within 30 metres of the rocky shoreline. Boat based whale-watching trips in Walkers Bay with a close-up experience to those giant mammals of the sea are available.

    Grootbos Private Nature Reserve comprises large, private suites set among ancient milkwood trees. There, guests can relax pampered by all comforts of home and surrounded by the splendour of nature. Winding pathways and strolling between the suites and the main lodge guide you past the largest milkwood forests in the world.

    The Garden Lodge is decorated in a more classic style ideal for families. The Forest Lodge boasts a contemporary and modern style appealing the cosmopolitan traveller.

    Each suite has a private balcony overlooking the ocean as well as a finely appointed en-suite bathroom. Furnished with natural textures and colours, the rooms reflect the harmony of nature.

    Grootbos Private Nature Reserve is situated south east of Cape Town along the coastline of the Indian Ocean. The world-renowned Garden Route has not quite officially started at this point, but guests should stay at Grootbos before or after going on a Garden Route tour.

    Grootbos Nature Reserve is a pristine botanical reserve with some of the most beautiful wild flowers and landscapes. This reserve nestles in fynbos-clad hills with views of the dunes, Cape of Good Hope and the sea. "Fynbos", meaning fine bush, is a type of vegetation unique to the Cape. In this floral kingdom, more than 650 indigenous plant species have been identified.
